About Iron Oak Aviation
The Iron Oak Aviation R44 Raven II blends proven performance with refined comfort, delivering the versatility pilots demand and the premium cabin experience discerning passengers expect. Built on Robinson’s trusted engineering, and elevated by Iron Oak’s attention to detail, this aircraft is equally at home on business flights, private excursions, or wilderness operations.
Performance that Inspires Confidence
At the heart of the R44 Raven II is the Lycoming IO-540-AE1A5, a six-cylinder, fuel-injected powerhouse:
- Maximum Continuous Power: 205 HP
- 5-Minute Takeoff Rating: 245 HP
- Maximum Operating Density Altitude: 14,000 ft
- Hover Ceiling IGE (Max Gross Weight): 8,950 ft @ 2,500 lb
- Hover Ceiling OGE (Max Gross Weight): 7,500 ft @ 2,300 lb
- Fuel Range (No Reserve): 350 nm / 650 km
This balance of efficiency and strength gives pilots confidence in challenging conditions while ensuring smooth, responsive control at every altitude.
Design & Safety
The Raven II features a two-bladed rotor system, streamlined instrument panel, and an aerodynamic fuselage designed to optimize speed and fuel economy. Its aluminum monocoque and powder-coated steel tube structure provides a lightweight yet robust airframe, while hydraulically boosted controls eliminate feedback forces for effortless handling. A low tail-rotor tip speed and large cambered tail further reduce flyover noise, making every flight efficient and neighbor-friendly.
The Iron Oak Cabin Experience
Where most helicopters stop at utility, Iron Oak Aviation takes comfort to the next level:
- Air Conditioning: Keeps the cabin cool even on the hottest days.
- Leather Seats: Crafted for durability, comfort, and style.
- Bose A20 Noise-Cancelling Headsets: Included for both pilot and passengers, ensuring crystal-clear communication and reduced fatigue.
The Iron Oak Advantage
The R44 Raven II has long been a standard-bearer in light helicopter performance. With Iron Oak Aviation’s refinements, it becomes more than just an aircraft — it’s a professional tool and a luxury experience rolled into one.
Advanced Avionics Suite
Iron Oak Aviation enhances the Raven II with a modernized console panel designed around next-generation situational awareness and safety. Key upgrades include:
- Garmin G500 TXi flight display for state-of-the-art navigation, engine monitoring, and system integration.
- Genesys HeliSAS autopilot, providing stability augmentation and workload reduction for single-pilot operations.
- Full NVIS (Night Vision Imaging System) capability, scheduled for rollout in 2026, expanding mission profiles and night operation safety.
These avionics upgrades ensure the Iron Oak Raven II stands apart as one of the most capable and pilot-friendly helicopters in its class.
Operations
Kris brings over 15 years on the Boeing 777 from Legacy Airline operations including long-haul, Polar routes, and transpacific. Before that, medevac King Air operations in northern Alberta, corporate jets, and check and training captain roles across multiple operators. Iron Oak Aviation is the next chapter — private helicopter operations in the Canadian Rockies.
Leadership & Development
The experience behind Iron Oak Aviation spans Training Captain, Flight Safety Officer, and Check Pilot roles across multiple operators, with aviation safety programs built from the ground up. Critical Incident Stress Management and TCCC instructor credentials form the foundation of both Professional Development for Aviators and Refuge Medical Training.
